Good metric. If it doesn't look good then it probably has too much irrelevant shit that distracts more than anything. I had a bell curve when I was a web developer. Simple designs because I was incapable > More complicated designs because I was more capable > Simple designs because I fucking hate complexity and so do most users
That and I’m also just looking to see if they pay attention to details and think about people who don’t use the latest and greatest screens.
There's a similar problem on the development side for hardware resource requirements. It tends to be a problem with the less experienced people not thinking about how design choices affect users who aren't using the equipment they have access to. A good team has a mix of young bucks pushing trends and wise old owls pulling them back a bit.
