In 1761, during a time of religious oppression in Transylvania, Oprea of Săliştea, an uneducated peasant, stood firm in his Orthodox Christian faith when pressured to convert to Catholicism. Summoned to Vienna and offered noble status and wealth if he renounced Orthodoxy, Oprea refused, declaring his unwavering loyalty to his ancestral faith. He was imprisoned and tortured but remained steadfast, eventually being martyred for his beliefs, thus becoming a symbol of resistance and faith for the Orthodox Romanians.

Holy Martyr Oprea, pray to God for us and inspire us to stand firm in our faith, no matter the cost.
