If it gets in it “allows” collaborative custody but doesn’t “force”, correct?
If so then I don’t have to engage with it if I don’t want to.
If I don’t I’ll be labeled “elite” if I do then . . . why would I?
This isn’t like Segwit2x but I think it’s turning into a decisive issue again and I’m wondering if it’s at all worth it to get all shitty with each other.

I believe you are fundamentally correct, though one could say you may have to interact with CTV collaborative custody eventually as someone paying you may use a traffic control TX to pay you. But that’s still different than using CTV. Once the payment is settled in *your* UTXO, there’s no CTV aspect remaining.
On your last point, it is never necessary to get all shitty with each other. I look forward to the day when adult humans learns to communicate better than toddlers do :)
