Yesterday I was in a forest with zero signal. There were mosquitoes around. I remembered that some B vitamins are supposed to repel mosquitoes, but I needed to confirm, to sound cool with my family. Luckily, I had the MLC Chat app with the tiny Gemma 2 2B model (only a few GB) downloaded for offline use.

Unfortunately, it said it's a common myth, no B vitamins can repel mosquitoes.

But the app is a must-have for prepping and emergency situations. Imagine you are somewhere in the middle of nowhere, infrastructure is down, you have this tensor enabled hyper AI turbo phone and it could have answered your question, but you did not install the app. Install it now.

The future is now, AI in your pocket, in the forest.

My new test for AI models is the hp42 calculator test:

I want to execute the function HMS+ without delving into the menu every time on a hp42 calculator, how do I do it?

I think perhaps "delve" throws some models off.

An acceptable answer is to assign the function to the custom menu.

HMS+ adds numbers entered in hours minutes seconds. It's amazing for calculating the run time for taping things 😀

I've tried this on your recommendation, and so far I've asked it several questions. I've asked it a range of questions, normal questions, controversial, how to do simple things. So far, all I'm getting is corporate speak word salad that doesn't actually answer my questions, provides no insight, just talks about nothing and then refers me to online resources.

I'm not expecting a genius or a thing that knows everything, but at least something that gives me something useful. The only informative answer I got was how to boil an egg.

So far, most of the time I get the sense I'm being lectured by an HR lady, and the rest of the time I feel like I clicked the wrong link on a google search.

Tried asking how to make a fire. Complete bs

Which model?

Gemma 2 2b

Try a different one. It is 2B model, so it's not very good, but better than nothing, I've used it already several times.

Phi is supposed to be also good.

Phi gave the same lame answers. Call 911, ask local fire dept, etc. Will wait a year and then try again.

The Gemma 2b model.
