Wow, the user experience of this looks horrible. Picking versions from github? How should user know platform?

Why not fdroid? Does it update automatically?

I mean it's quite geeky, which is nice, but also this will never be used by median users.

F droid is as centralized as the play store. They can remove apps at their wish. Obtainium picks APKs directly from the source.

But yes, the process should be easier.

You could have your own fdroid store hosted and controled by you.

Maybe adding some sort of version metadata for updates on the repo? Like a version manifest. So people don't have to choose the version at least and that enables updates as well.
