Is anyone aware of any serious research that has been done regarding what might be the sustainable human population of the earth? I would guess that it would be significantly less than today's population.

I would be interested in this as well. It might depend on the technological level and so many other factors.. what might be maximum now might be hugely different in the next 10 years. Alao depends on the quality of life expected. If everyone has a castle with 15 acres is different than everyome living in 2 x2 m flats.
