Our wood pile is a good 50 ft. From the house.
My dad's pile is right up against the house, but, termites don't like the weather where he is, so that's not an issue.
You can help prevent termites from getting into your wood (and decrease drying time) by raising the stack off the ground.
We don't have termites up here, but my wood is 30' from the house. That is what the fire department recommends to make the stucture more defendable during a wildfire. I use two wheel dolly with a rack for hauling it to the house.
