The price seemed to take off price a few weeks with ordinals but 1 s/b transactions were getting in when I looked about a week ago.

Yeah, the ordinals thing bloated the mempool a bit. I want to say whatever the hell Binance did (I heard it was almost like a proof of reserves flex after the FTX debacle) had like 140 blocks backed up. Obviously fees increased substantially in that instance.
