Not really. You can do invite only "private" NIP-29 groups but it's not private encrypted. I guess you could even make a relay that requires auth to even read the data, but again it's not encrypted. People want true privacy.

People might say that they want “true” privacy, but in reality they are just fine with assumed privacy. Discord? Slack? Telegram? Facebook? Twitter DMs? They’re not actually private, even though people think they are.

I’ve submitted a PR for NDK that adds gift wrapped DMs and chatrooms using these … I’m looking into adding this as a stack.
I came to Nostr almost 2 years ago with exactly this task in mind …. lots of attention on this from many devs … but still no actual implemented solution. 👀
