Maybe a simple option to not see stories from an account, and a way to turn on notifications of a story for a particular person I follow? Could be a simple button on the sidebar of the story, with more options on a long press, and story options also displayed on their profile?

Then I would see all stories by my follow list by default, could switch off stories from people I don't want to see new ones from and could subscribe to being notified when my favorite people post one.

I think when this catches on people can just create new accounts and send terrible content all the time. :(

True, but can we make it so that we only see stories from accounts we follow? If someone is posting something we don't want to see, we can just stop following them or stop see their stories?

Either way, I want to decide what I see, not have an algorithm decide for me.

That's the idea with the follow lists. The only issue is that it puts the burden of curating those lists on the user (or the UI.. assuming we can make a useful one)

True, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Nostr allows us to be sovereign in our social media, which also comes with responsibility.

An algorithm would be fine, as long as it's optional and I can choose to curate manually instead. Perhaps an outside algorithm could be a 3rd party subscription service similar to paid relays a user opts into?

Also, what if stories had an option at the top to switch between global stories and followed accounts? Similar to how TikTok has For You and Friends.

Users usually post about a variety of topics. Sometimes just a small percentage of those topics really matter to me. Algorithms solve that problem really well.

Algorithms are also a great vehicle for centralization and promoting agendas.
