Lex is working in fields that Putin has always been interested in. I have compared Lex to a Putin nocturnal emission or wet dream. The KGB would find Lex to be immensely valuable.
There are times where Lex makes subtle hints that Western culture may be failing, or at least he seems to be planting the seeds. (Oh but all the bananas you can eat - that in itself should say that the "eastern" countries are failing. Nvm that Russia is closer to being West than east from a perspective... If you go far enough west, you'll be in the east... I always found it weird, but that's neither here nor there.)
