Morgan (from whom we have Chase Bank today) was just 23 when the War to Prevent Southern Secession (commonly misnamed the "Civil War") started, and began making his money by buying defective rifles and selling them to Union soldiers his own age. (No one knows how many of them blew up in their faces.)
