화폐량의 증가는 오직 각각의 프랑 혹은 달러의 교환 효과성을 희석시키는 점에만 기여한다. 화폐량의 증가는 아무런 사회적 편익을 주지 않는다. 사실상 정부와 정부가 통제하는 은행체제가 화폐공급을 증대시키려고 하는 이유는, 엄밀하게 말해서 그 증가가 모든 사람들에게 똑같이 주어지는 것이 아니기 때문이다.

An increase in the quantity of money only serves to dilute the exchange effectiveness of each franc or dollar; it confers no social benefit whatever. In fact, the reason why the government and its controlled banking system tend to keep inflating the money supply, is precisely because the increase is not granted to everyone equally.
