-THE ISLAND LIFE-

Lennox Castle in Glasgow has a long, interesting, and at times, quite dark history. Built between 1837 and 1841, the castle was the home of John Lennox Kincaid.

The house was purchased by the Glasgow Corporation in 1927 and turned into a hospital for people with learning disabilities.

Unfortunately, it was said that the hospital was overcrowded, underfunded, and understaffed. When it closed in 1982, patients were found to be malnourished.

The hospital also housed a maternity unit where singer Lulu and footballer John Brown were born.
