The more I grow up, the more I lose interest in high-end tech.

BEFORE:

- Monitor: 4K OLED, HDR10, glossy...

- Phone: iPhone or top-tier Android phones

- GPU: RTX 4000+

- Keyboard: Only used mechanical keyboards

- Headphones: Premium Bluetooth earbuds with ANC

AFTER:

- Monitor: 1080p IPS is fine

- Phone: Any budget Chinese Android phone works

- GPU: iGPU are sufficient, no dGPU needed

- Keyboard: $10 no-brand keyboard

- Headphones: $5 Xiaomi wired earbuds with 3.5mm jack

The only high-end device I still own is a MacBook, solely because it runs macOS. I'll switch to a ThinkPad once Linux improves.

It's all coming at us too fast. It makes you feel left behind. More to your point though, trust me you'll get more agency out of a ThinkPad than any Apple product any day.

Iโ€™m exact opposite. Canโ€™t stand low quality products

I prefer low spec products but not low quality

Usually one and the same.

For me is mostly cost vs benefit from device. Especially if it is something often used with good improvement.

life hack of owning quality products is buying used

> once Linux improves

Not happening. MacOS like Windows will eventually become so locked down and intrusive that you'll jump ship to escape them

I've tested fedora with gnome 48 in a few days, at least it work fine for my daily tasks. The only issue is sleep barely work well, fractional scaling still suck.

To be honest, I'm the same way. I went for a high-resolution monitor mainly for text and image accuracy, but Windows' poor font rendering and color management forced me to go for a more advanced monitor. I don't play mobile games anymore, so my need for a mobile phone is at a minimum, and I'm still using my old phone from five years ago, with the only complaint being the battery. Mechanical keyboards are not so much about comfort as they are about durability, and the same goes for mice. I haven't purchased any TWS headphones yet, but I have a lot of headphones, only one pair of regular bluetooth headphones for outdoor use, and most of the time I use speakers or a wired headphone.

In contrast, I'm spending more and more money on software.๐Ÿ˜‚

windows font rendering is suck with 1080p screen, you need at least 200 dpi for look good, and the last time I use windows, hdr barely work ๐Ÿ˜…

btw, I'm spending more money for this:

Oh, a real anime girl~

Yes, better Windows font rendering requires 4k pixel count scaled to 200% to get a "correct" 1080P font display, which in my opinion is a waste of monitor and GPU performance in every way.
