Chinese companies are winning the AI race, as China is on their way to AGI. Look at DeepSeek R1, Qwen 2.5 and other models coming from China, and under Free Software licenses.
Making models is one thing .. the question is - who can convert them into $$$ ..
I think chinese companies are no where close to Google or Meta when it comes to making people pay ..
