A bunch of factors really, but the main ones boil down to money and lack of knowledge (or caring tbh)
Most mining groups don’t fucking care about btc, I met GigaChad and Pierre and they thought of Bitcoin as a widget to use and make a profit.. those kind of people won’t understand how powerful a node can be. And working at multiple mines, you’d be surprised how retarded people on in terms of Bitcoin. Most workers neither own btc nor understand how it works. They just know how to change a fan or switch out a power supply , unfortunately.
Also, most mining groups are either on a tight budget and/or are backed by VC. So someone needs their roi.
Sure, nothing is really stopping them from doing that, but it’s not like it’ll make them any real money. Not to mention btc devs are kinda far and few in between, and practically nonexistent in the mining field (weird right?) so even if they had thousands of nodes, how would they even influence the network when they don’t know the first thing about btc core?
I can see future miners running lightning nodes to make a small profit, but it’s unlikely atm as people can’t see that far ahead. I think if any mining group would start utilizing nodes, we won’t see it for another 5-10 years where kids grow up in countries like El Salvador learning how to code or some grassroots miners do it out of love for the network
