What would be a good brand and model of NEW laptop to buy for Linux?

ThinkPads were always my go to, and some old macbook airs.

These always seemed to be the most compatible and reliable and practical.

I need to help a friend choose one now who wants to buy BRAND NEW.

Any suggestions?

Lenovos and Asus are still the king of OEM imo! All the new Ryzen models are pretty legit and work well with Linux.

Framework laptops look pretty awesome for Linux too, don’t have experience with those yet though.

looking for something as SLIM as possible with large screen.

I was interested in DELL XPS but the screen is too small.

Dell XPS 13 7390-13.3" 4K Touch - i7-10710U - 8GB - 256GB SSD

you can never be too thin or have enough screen real estate

I prever lenovo over asus but any lenovo model? or just thinkpads?

I want to make sure the wifi and touch screen will work for sure

$939 Canadian

Thoughts?

Can’t go wrong with that one. Super good processor and 16gb ram is the right move. I don’t typically buy new but I’ve been through dozens of used PCs and Lenovos have always impressed me the most. Better build and longer lasting than the rest

checked this out at the store, has an intel wifi chip.

not going to work with linux from what I searched online.

I want to avoid doing a return as much as possible.

staying away from system 76 too bulky and over priced.

I will revisit purism and tuxedo thanks!

I have 15 year old think pad running 24/7 365 since day 1.

and a few more.

need something slim and new with big screen touch screen.

Purism is only 14" :(

tuxedo looks overpriced too :(

can't follow last 2 days so plz tag me

I would go with an Asus, I have never had any issues setting up the few I have tried. I also just recently set up a HP Victus gaming laptop without any problems.

I'll never buy an HP again. :(

I hear you, I don't really like them either. Have a HP desktop that sucked as a windows box but improved when I put a couple flavors of linux on it.

The Victus I got too good of deal for the hardware to pass up last year on black Friday. Was looking for a comparable Asus but couldn't find one. So far its worked great.

Star Labs Systems, System76, Slimbook, Framework, Tuxedo.
