What I find crazy is that the world has run on it for so long.
They say the dollar is backed by the "full faith and credit" of the United States. I think that really means faith in the government's ability to continue to extract taxes from its citizens. The work/slavery of Americans is what backs the dollar, as well as the fact that people and countries accept it.
