Can someone help me set up & recommend bitcoin miners in my 1800sqft greenhouse? I pay over $1k a month to heat it in winter months and I want the heat.

My technical expertise ends at running a node.

I have potential applications in an industrial building I need heated as well.

Ask chat gpt to do the math

Hashprice, cost of miner, electric cost, cost of adding 240v if you don't have,

Need to look at hash/dollar ratio

Already did that. Looks like I’d need ≈20 miners to replace gas heating. Most likely using the miners as constant heat with back up current gas heater is probably most efficient set up.

My S19J Pro heats my shop and greenhouse. Not economically efficient any longer, but still heats the space and supports the network. If I can do it. Anyone can

I’d be more than happy to net the same (or even less) dollars heating via mining vs paying the gas company.

Agree with Ben, you need to understand upper and lower potential on hash/sat payout. Also consider are you wanting to fully replace the existing heatsrouce or offset by mining? Do you know what your price of electricity is?

Base cost is 0.099/kwh but after delivery charges my last bill was almost .20/kwh

How do you heat it now? Does adding mining increase your heating bill because if not then any mining net of infrastructure could be a benefit, just make sure you minimize cost of setup, of course.

I heat it currently with a gas heater.

Your thoughts are why I’m interested. More than happy to pay the same costs to mine as I am paying in gas. Even better if I save money.

If you're heating anyways. And you understand the potential gain and extra cost for heating then go for it.

Playing the lottery is a lot more palatable when you can stack it the odds in your favor by winning on the back end 🤙💪

I’ve looked at some gas setups for large farm greenhouses, but if you are just considering a small greenhouse it’s a lot more reasonable. The heat is pretty dry (about 30-40% humidity) so you would need to consider that. Depending on the number of machines you want will define your setup costs. There are a few greenhouse miners out there you could reference; Scandinavia I believe.

That said, do you have an idea of the number of miners you might employ, or at least, the desired BTU output?

ChatGPT estimated my current BTU is 150,000 with the gas heater I have. Most likely would be adding miners to get a base BTU and keep the gas thermostat on to regulate during colder times on demand.

Simple calc from BTU to watts is about 14 miners, so you need a relatively small setup, easily manageable, too. Nice🤙🏻

14 is small? Feel like the ancillary costs are going to be high on the instal for that

Depends—14 miners at 3000 watts each, 240 volt is 175 amps, thats a single 200 amp 3-phase commercial panel.

I have, it’s awesome!

Unfortunately, I only need heat 3 months a year. But that’s a dope operation

The ironic analogy isn't missed here...

I would run a couple of ASICs in my garage during the winter in the Midwest. It kept it comfortable on the coldest of days down to 0f IIRC

.20/kwh is steep. I haven't checked mine in a bit but when I was tolerate of mining it was closer to .11/kwh

.20kwh is adjusted for additional delivery costs. Actual contract price is 0.099kwh

Setting up a bitcoin miner is pretty easy…

If you can setup a node you should be able to run a bitcoin miner…

I’m not as worried about setting up the miner as I am other considerations like: miner optimization for max heat not max hashing, environmental concerns like greenhouse humidity and air quality, and then actual heat output per miner vs gas unit

Very understandable. I hope someone can help with those answers

It's doable, there's a least one guy I've seen on nostr that makes Bitcoin mining rigs with the primary function being winter heating.

Id tag him if I could remember his name.

Main thing is your electricity price

These guys can get you miners

Here is a project I did a few years back. Might give a little inspiration.

Rocket mass heater might be a good option.
