i bought this a long time ago, hold on, let me think....studio one is download and i believe it came with presonus. Studio one, i believe, is kind of like the basic beginner DAW, dont quote me on it, because i didn't nerd out on the stuff i bought, i just started making beats with the free files that i got with it. i am no expert, i just like putting sounds together. In studio one, you have your "beat pack" that comes with the atom, which is a drum pad, and i just do a really basic count....nothing fancy, i have no idea how to explain it yet. So it is software that came with my drum pad and interface that i bought. maybe cost a couple hundred bucks altogether, that i did in a payment plan....you can probably do the same with apps now, because i used one for a bit, can't recall. i just like drums and sounds. this was not helpful. :)

I have a small midi keyboard. Tried setting it up and then got a little overwhelmed 😅. Would love to get into making beats. Hardware drum machines are tempting

Dawless is the way, just so damn expensive lol. I’ve seen some nice modular setups lately
