Framed #643 (nah. I watched A Quiet Place and started reading The Perfect Golden Circle by Benjamin Myers. A Quiet Place was good in all kinds of ways, direction, acting, cinematography, but, maybe I'm been a bit unfair, I think unless the invasion happened very quickly, and everywhere, there'd probably be an antipodean electronics engineer (maybe who runs a YouTube channel), or working in a lab somewhere, declared king of the world because they tried the obvious electronically. And the microphone at the end in the best case wouldn't have picked up much over 20kHz (and may have a low pass and/or high pass filter) and PA systems have a frequency response curve that drop off rapidly at around 20kHz assuming the best possible case - worst case the horn type, all weather speakers, probably drop off at around the upper end of speech at 7kHz. In other words the alien zapping sounds couldn't have been ultrasonic or harmonically complicated beyond the specifications of the attack platform. As someone who has repeatedly put fractal patterns in music, viewable with spectral frequency displays, I accept there could be a weird audio formula or resonant frequency thing. The creatures did respond to the vocal range. Good film, but consult more scientists and engineers, otherwise it's a bit 'a wizard did it'. The TV version of The Gallows Pole was arse, which is unrelated to audio stuff, Benjamin Myers is a good author.)
