There are many different relay types and implementations. This one allows people that you follow and who they follow to all write to this relay. It's a one level deep Web-of-Trust relay.
You would still need to be familiar with the command line to set your server up and to install this, it is now however slightly easier than it was earlier today.

Yes a step by step guide would be amazing 😍 I'm also wondering if this works for people who are travelling - is there a way to keep the relay running while we are flying etc?! Stuff like that always trips me up 😅
