When you punch a mark into a sandblasted surface, the metal will shine through in the marking because the punch mark itself obviously has no surface treatment. This adds glare, which is the enemy when it comes to scanning the QR with a digital device like SeedSigner. To combat this, we blacken out the dots which makes it easy to scan.

The punch marks are what's important because they stores the dot locations for eternity. Even if you dump that thing in acid and eradicate all the ink, you can always reapply it if you need to scan your SeedQR.

Mind you this product is meant for deep cold storage, so it's not a very frequent occurrence to scan them to begin with.
