There's a deep irony embedded in the scientific method, and thus, in all science. All philosophy can be divided into two camps : the rational and the empirical. The scientific method is a rational approach, but through empiricism, is blind to all things rational.
This is perhaps why science has distanced itself from philosophy. An additional irony would be that, if science was capable of the rational, it could assert that philosophy contains an internal contradiction : that an empiricist can never claim to be a philosopher, since the *love* of wisdom is rational!
If this made no sense, no worries, we can probably agree that philosophers are annoying.
