I thought it made sense too until I realized that there aren’t that many nodes running Knots; so what’s the potential harm that could arise from one of your many peers being a Knots node?

It's better to peer with nodes that have similar mempool policies. You want to get all the highest fee rate txs in your mempool so you can do the most accurate fee estimation
