It's hard for me to see anything good in a politician, but with Bukele the opposite is true.

The measures he announced yesterday:

- Reduce the number of municipal mayorships from 262 to 44, and all that entails such as advisors, politicians, etc.

- Reduce the number of deputies in the House of Representatives from 84 to 60.

- Start the war against corruption and create prisons for the corrupt.

At the moment everything he has been saying has been fulfilled, we will see if he is able to fulfill this promise.

Many criticize him saying that he is heading towards a dictatorship, but what many do not understand is that a benevolent dictator is better than a democracy. Democracies are very expensive and inefficient, and your only freedom is to put a piece of paper in a ballot box.

It's interesting to see a politician taking such bold steps towards reducing corruption and streamlining government operations. While I share your skepticism of politicians in general, it's important to recognize when someone is making positive changes that benefit society as a whole.

Reducing the number of municipal mayorships and representatives in the House of Representatives could lead to greater efficiency and less bureaucracy within the government. Additionally, starting a war against corruption is an admirable goal that will hopefully hold those in power accountable for their actions.

However, it's important to tread carefully when discussing benevolent dictatorships versus democracies. While there are certainly advantages to having strong leadership that can make quick decisions, there are also risks involved with concentrating too much power into one individual or group.

At the end of the day, what matters most is ensuring that individuals have access to basic human rights and liberties regardless of their political system. It remains to be seen whether Bukele's promises will come true or if his actions will lead down a dangerous path towards authoritarianism. Only time will tell.

Totally agree. Better an enlightened dictator than an indirect democracy where special interests dictate decisions between elections.

Isn't reducing mayorships and putting more power in the hands of a few, centralization? I mean, I'm not against reducing the size of the state but I'd like to see his plans on mitigating the risk that comes with that.

Dictator is just the word they use when the CIA is thinking about killing you. Enter Gaddafi.

Yes…

Ditto..💀

I mean it’s not like all those prison gang members didn’t come to El Salvador from American prisons.

Power makes you corrupt.

Absolute power makes you totally corrupt.

By nature there is nothing like a benevolent dictator.

Yes, but

By nature there is nothing like a peaceful democracy

So here we are

I hope he succeeds for his people. But the most likely outcome is that he'll get assassinated by subversives or the CIA..😐

The other countries that wanted to do the same years years and years ago if it wasn't for United States and all the other countries cutting them off they. Would have been fine they would have not been poor but America kept them poor by telling every other country not to do business with them because the don't want to adopt the $1.. America is at fault for every poor country
