the only goal directed algorithm that exists still in its pure form is Dijkstra's path finding algorithm... that is the state of it, and the reason why it's not any further is because of the same reason you can't reverse hash functions or break the public/private key derivation function in RSA/DSA/ECDSA/Edwards signature algorithms - they depend on reverse time which is exponentially complex to compute

supposedly quantum computers can do that but if you didn't realise this, AI is already using more power than far more than bitcoin, and quantum computers are another order of magnitude more energy intensive to cool the qubits enough to abuse their superposition to do special math that ... hahah let's just say that we will have to discover antimatter energy systems before we can do full blown computational intelligence
