That, I think, underlines one of the key problems with it; the more poor people got the vote the more they voted to take richer people's money. A group of peers, voluntarily submitting to the result of a group vote, is tolerable democracy.

Well, I don't think it's possible for poor people to take away anything. The usually get manipulated by the very rich to attack the middle class. It kind of works every time in history. The middle class are truly retarded for not figuring out this pattern yet.
A group of people threatening violence (democracy) can and do take from the wealthy, who in our current system pay the lion share of the taxes. The middle classes, when talking about business owners who provide services, take a beating too.
