Is this like modern Israel trying to do now what ancient Israel was told to do in biblical times: exterminate the Canaanites?
The Old Covenant is complete, the New has come! The Messiah has come and He commands us to love our neighbors, even if they're enemies.

in fact israel itself is a branch of the canaanites
They certainly inter-married with the Canaanites (which would make them half-Canaanite), and eventually God kicked them out of Canaan because they became *worse* than the Canaanites!
So I'm pretty sure what Israel is doing now is not justified biblically.
