Runaway inflation in third word countries would like to have a word with you sir.

It won’t apply to everybody. But a lot of people could easily do it but their habit is liking still.
I don’t know man… A like can be a way to acknowledge they saw your post, its nice to get a like from someone. To see some random thought you had was read by some stranger, kinna amazing don’t you think?
If they zap its cool too. If they don’t thats cool too. Not everything needs to be about making money.
For me, it is not about the money. I like the idea of zaps being the standard because it differentiates good from not so good content over time.
Tapping a heart is easy and not as appreciative as sending a tiny zap. I also like the idea of a value 4 value economy which makes zapping suit better than liking 💜
Then you make this whole experiment a pay to win game.
The richest of the bunch is going to start being the loudest because they can afford to pay themselves.
Tbh, I get what you are saying but I don’t think we can slap a simple answer on something complex like decentralized communication and say we can fix it. Every solution is going to enrich a bunch and marginalize another bunch.
Tapping a heart is easy, hitting repost is easy. Then again sending 10-20 sats is easy for a guy who holds 1mil sats vs a dude whos got 100k sats.
It’s only pay to win if algos make it a pay to win, isn’t it?
I am not saying that this is the way but at least something that should be tried because it holds a lot of potential for a positive progress.
But my good man, you said it yourself.
“because it differentiates good from not so good content over time“
In this context good meaning posts that were zapped(paid) right?
The algorithm doesn’t always have to mean source code. By making zapping the default or worse, only way to appreciate the value of someone’s posts we are changing the rules of the game to mean. Hey this post is worth more than the other coz this post has more zapps and the other one has non.
In a decentralized system its impossible to always know who zapped, thereby making it possible for a rich actor to zap their posts constantly and make the value of their stuff seem higher.
Didn’t we see this fail with likes on twitter we started measuring the value of things based on likes and retweets instead of enjoying the conversations and just having fun man.
Likes should be a way to say, “hey random guy I read your post” a zap should be considered the same thing. We cant trivialize our conversations to just who had the bigger numbers.
I definitely get your point and making monetary power the driver of visibility is a threat. On the other hand, killing a process like making zapping more like a habit right in the beginning destroys potential findings on the way. I am 💯 sure that there are good ways to manage threats like this.
