I wish Bandcamp had the option. Someone should do something about that.

Soon platforms will pay 100% to artists.

Maybe even more…

wow...but nostr is not a platform?

That assumes the decentralized model is more cost effective by at least a factor of 10, right?

For one there’s no processing fees. Overhead pretty low since you no longer have to deal with payments. Infrastructure is part outsourced unless you run your own relays. You can enable one click platform support with split zaps and streaming (optional).

Unless I’m overlooking something, you could enable artists to collect 100%, with option to support platform with a tiny percentage on top of that. Plus zaps. That all goes directly to artist. Plus Merch - 0 fees minus 3rd party fulfillment. Digital sales = 100% cut.

Yes agreed

Makes a lot of sense actually, especially if you think that the infrastructure is built at a minimal cost, if any to artist, infrastructure builder (considered distributed) and consumer.

Cost to build on nostr will trend down significantly once we have components and boilerplates for various languages. Plus a lot of it is already open source. Professional services down the road will allow anyone to build on nostr.

💯 yes. We are definitely living in interesting times, with progress driven by a distributed flexible platform, oss, permission less access and most importantly a global money.

We just need a music playing client.

Notes which contain music

And relays which will feed that music.

We could own/buy/stream from any relay and once doing so, like torrents, share it back out. The notes could contain links to paying the artist directly.

Existing record labels or artists could create their own relay or have one hosted containing their music collection.
