The Prime does a lot more than the Q, no? Seems hard to compare use cases since the Prime is a lot more than a wallet.
The Prime is really neat but I think one drawback is that it works best if you take it with you on the go, and that seems like a security trade off that almost defeats the purpose.
Choosing to take it on the go is a choice. Q is a cold wallet while Prime is an authenticator, storage device and portable keystore. The features that would make you carry a Prime the most are the encrypted storage, authenticator, and the security key functionality. Would you be using stored data or the 2FA often outside?
Cryptocurrency transactions would mostly only matter if you did them on the go, but if you were doing that anyway, then you'd have done it regardless of the device you were actually using. So, for the most part that's out of the question.
For the authenticator and the storage, you'd back them up (through their backup functionality or your own way). For the 2FA keys, standards recommend you have two keys for second factor authentication via key anyways. You could always use your (likely cheaper) backup options for when you are out, although the state of security of that 2FA or data store is whatever is lower between the Prime or your backup option (often the backup).
You're more likely to lose a device carrying it around, but what matters more is if a device's data is safe from unauthorized access when it is lost. Would be better to say you're thinking about a data loss risk than a security risk -- and providing you follow best practices that security risk should be minimized. For example, don't get the device taken from you while it's unlocked, don't expose it out in the open, and use it only for the minimal amount of time / purpose you need to use it for.
Maybe nostr:npub1s0vtkgej33n7ec4d7ycxmwt78up8hpfa30d0yfksrshq7t82mchqynpq6j have a different way of going about it than I do or how to describe their product. I understand they have docs for this stuff.
All fair comments from Final (as always!). Ultimately Prime, even in it's early state, is a much more multi-functional device and not really comparable to the Q.
The launch version of the device and OS isn't even scratching the surface for the possible use cases that are going to transpire in the years the follow.
Some will leave it at home and just use it as an epic cold storage device with a superior UI. Others will do as Final suggested and incorporate it into their daily carry for 2FA.
Others will use a hybrid approach of the two, maybe as a 'warm wallet's key or a part of a multisig quorum for friends/family.
Possibilities are endless.
Excited to see what else you guys have in store.
Thanks for the informative and thorough reply.
