How are you making it? I have a retort being made right now, curious what other people are using

I use a cone pit I dug in the back yard. Eventually it’ll be a pond.

That reminds me I should measure how much water it holds next time I fill it!!

Cool, I might try that tomorrow, I'm eager to get going

I'm sure there are better ways to make biochar but honestly unless you hit a buried cable or irrigation line- its just a low cost, low risk way to get started fast on making some of that black gold.

What other ways works you recommend?

In all honesty, I can really only recommend a cone pit as thats all I've done on any realistic scale.

however, Ive heard great things about cut steel drums and retorts.

I wish i could say one way or the other as far as recommendations but honestly I can't justify trying to build or buy anything when I can just make it work with a shovel (and i happen to want ponds on the property).

Fantastic
