Lowkey 🔥

Went to two separate videos and in neither did the person actually ride it!
Yeah, they just announced it. But, I’m pretty sure pedal by wire is the future. It’s to be expected that there will be a lot more content between now and release. But, Rivian makes nice shit. And, the guy running Also spent 10 years at Specialized.
Would you mind explaining briefly what that is, for the ignorant. Saw it mentioned multiple times with no definition
There is no direct mechanical connection between the pedals and the rear wheel. The pedals are connected to a generating motor. The rear wheel is propelled by a second motor. This allows for an infinitely adjustable riding experience controlled by software. If you’ve ever ridden a bike with gears, you’ll probably be aware of what pain in the ass those systems can be.
Oh wow, that is cool. Assume it recharges for extra pedaling you store? Don't know if other bikes currently do that. None of the ones I've ridden did, as far as I know
Right. Pedaling only adds charge to the battery. The resistance is determined by the rider via software. It’s a total reimagining of the bicycle. This is gonna be game changing for personal mobility worldwide. Of course, it will take a long time to permiate. Just like the adoption of Bitcoin. It’s better. But people will remain unconvinced for decades to come.
4500 usd sounds high, but it insane if it performs as good as suggested (didn't see any hard specs, but didn't look).
Thanks for explaining
I’m pretty sure this is meant to be marketed as a replacement for a car. This is for the bicycle commuter. A daily driver. $4,500 is completely in line for one’s primary source of transportation.
No problem bud 👊
So there’s no mechanical connection between the pedals and the drive gear? The website says “Yu refers to DreamRide as “pedal by wire.” There are no gears, no derailleurs, no internal hub for shifting. Instead, a computer with a removable battery sits in the base of the aluminum alloy frame.”
Not too handy in a grid down or SHTF situation if this is the case. And totally not self repairable. Fiat.
For sure. Open source hardware/software is always ideal. An open source pedal by wire ebike is now an inevitability. But, super cool tech!
