I guess #Nostr is like real life to some extent. You can't take back what you've said. But you can add on it.

Though I wish there were a delete option for convenience's sake, I'm glad that there isn't one.

Nostr supports delete as a core and fundamental part of the protocol. You can also pre-schedule the deletes with expiration tags. I’m not sure why people keep hallucinating how Nostr works.

Also even if Nostr didn’t support delete it wouldn’t stop these kinds of hacks / scams. Instead it would make them worse.

The reality is Nostr has a bigger hacked / highjacked account issue than centralized platforms because once the key is leaked there is no recovery mechanism.

The Nostr protocol does support deletion, but due to the decentralized nature of relays, most relays do not support deletion. Previous tests have shown that deletions were unsuccessful. I’m not sure which client managed to succeed.

The frequent hacking or scamming incidents often occur because the cost of scamming is too low, allowing perpetrators to orchestrate their schemes and deceive the public. Alternatively, it happens because people fail to recognize the importance of their accounts, leading to hacks. For example, cases of individuals having their Bitcoin private keys hacked and stolen are in the single digits, whereas cases of personal bank cards being hacked number in the hundreds of thousands.

Yes, once an account’s private key is stolen, there is no recovery mechanism. This is both a disadvantage and an advantage. It is precisely the uniqueness of private keys at this stage that gives accounts their trust value. If a key is stolen, the only option is to declare the account abandoned and announce a newly registered account. This raises the cost of scamming or malicious actions for those attempting to exploit an existing personal brand’s influence.

Because Nostr does not allow for true deletion, it establishes the foundation of a trust network. This immutability is also the basis for a social network built on a timeline of accumulated proof-of-work and non-deletable value.
