Either a very poor judgement of a submarine mission occurred unsuccessfully, or a Billionaire paid for him and his son along with 3 others to fake deaths and start life elsewhere.

I’m inclined to believe incompetence over maliciousness or conspiracy. However, I don’t tule out the latter.
