To complete a fraudulent transaction, or a 51% attack on the #bitcoin network you would need to have more than 50% of the hashing power of the entire Bitcoin network right?

The fact that the Bitcoin network is Decentralized on a global scale can prevent this.

But how do people that run their own node know that their node isn’t “compromised” in a way?

Is that a dumb question?

Hashing power comes from the miners, not the nodes. You make sure to download the software from the right source (bitcoincore.org) and verify the signatures and checksums of the software package. If you use umbrel, you trust them to do it right.
