Probably only the writers knew what it really means. For the rest of the team it could have been just a technobabble.
The most generous interpretation would be this is an opendime in disguise so it could have been smuggled in the facility they are running from. Why not just use just the seed then? Well, it's a tv show 🤷🏻.
