How did I orange pill my cousin earlier today?

She asked me what I've been up to. I started talking about Nostr and everything that #[0] and I have build with NostrPlebs.com. I explained Nostr and naturally, the conversation gravitated towards Bitcoin.

She asked me if I was still mining at home. I said yes. She said she didn't understand that, how Bitcoin is created, what mining does, etc. Explaining all of this made her realize why Bitcoin had value.

We then discussed the USD dollar and how "we" give the dollar it's value. We discussed the Fed and printing money. We discussed Bitcoin's scarcity and known monetary policy. We discussed why the Fed, inflation, and going off of the gold standard was bad.

I explained Bitcoin's halving event and 4 year cycles. I went the Foss route and explained how it's all just simple math! 😉

She ended up buying $50 on Cash App and setup a monthly DCA. I sent her sats over Lightning and explained the differences between on-chain and Lightning.

Initially, she said she thought it sounded like a great investment. I said it is, but we need to look at it as more than an investment. It's investing in your future by saving in bitcoin. She understood that.

Many other family members were sitting around listening. Maybe I can get another one of them too. Fingers crossed.

Did she have to give a blood sample to KYC at cashapp? What's the process these days?

She already uses Cash App. It's KYC but we don't have a simple button push to buy elsewhere. Yes, Cash App has fees, but again, it's no brainer simple and a ease path to get started. Once she goes down the rabbit whole more, I'll suggest other methods.

I would love to know the equivalent of this for merchant adoption.

Zapped to send some sats to other family members from a stranger. 🙂

great work. I need to do the same.

happy for you man :')

Love this.

Getting family to understand Bitcoin first means a lot, great job 👍

i've been talking for years 🤣 someone finally listened!

Fantasic! You're an inspiration. I'm hoping to have conversations like this with my family members. But they're still a little closed to new ideas.
