I have to learn so many things. Nostr is very exciting for this reason. So many facets to it. It's almost never ending.

Starting a node is a new rabbit Hole 🕳

I really don't know anything about it other than following the instructions given and suggestions here.

One question I have is, can I keep depositing sats to my node to make the channel bigger, or is the first deposit the limit to how big it is?

In other words, I o wanted a bigger channel do I start a new one or top the one I have?

Any help is appreciated 👏

Unless you're doing splicing, which you're probably not, the answer is no. You'll need to open larger channels. I wouldn't open a channel smaller than 2M sats. The larger the better. And the more the better.

What percentage of your stack would you put in?

I don't know the associated risk yet. That is what would determine that.

But, I would be willing to open a new channel every 1 million sats stacked through my DCA process from here on out. That is the thought that came to mind. I have a very low dca at the moment, 10 dollars a Dat. So when the 1 milli mark hits I'd open a new channel from here on out.

So, not using any percentage of my existing stack but a new dca stack allocation once ita met the 1 mil requirement.

Is that advisable? It's just a thought.

Oh I don't know. I don't have any lightning channels currently. I was asking nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424 what his thoughts.

It's not the first time I've seen the recommendation of no less than 2mil for a channel. So currently that is what I would do, until I understand more.

2M sats per channel and 8 channels to large nodes should be good.

that doesn't sound very decentralizing

Then open more channels to smaller nodes if you don't like it. You can also only open channels to people you plan on doing business with or sending and receiving from. This is just a general guideline to a general question.

The way lightning works is transactions get routed through channels (as I understand, correct me if I am wrong). So if we're all opening channels that does increase decentralization. Some nodes have more liquidity is inevitable and the same goes for channels.

What's in Lightning is essentially a hot wallet and you know the saying about a hot wallet.

What’s a good number of channels that y’all open or recommend? I’m building mine out as fees flux before this bull really starts running

Everyone's needs are different. You need channels to well connected nodes. It could be 4 girthy channels to the 4 largest nodes or 8 smaller channels to medium nodes.

I have like 38 channels on my node.

Is that because you want to earn routing fees or just for functionality and efficiency of being able to transact?

I want open one and some friends too. Do you know some video tutorial for us ?

In Lightning? Everyone is different. It depends on how much you're going to spend on a daily or monthly basis. Everyone's answer will be different.

On a pi or what kind of hardware and OS?

Laptop

What Operating system

It's a Mac book Pro

Not sure what the Os is tbh

Mac OS. I went through the same thing. There are different apps for different OS. That’s why I asked. You know the laptop is going to have to run like non stop all the time to do Lightning node. Might be chill to get a computer that’s a cheap POS to leave somewhere.

Got you, I'll get one!

I’ll help when you got a question. There are easier ways but to this is pretty cool
