As a kid my family didnt do Christmas. But I would usually get something from my grandma, and occasionally from an aunt. I didnt look forward to the holidays or the aftermath because inevitably return to school was all the kids showing off what new toy they got, or shoes, a bracelet, talk of the new gaming system, etc. The best gift I ever got for Christmas from my grandma was one of those electronic project kits. But what I remember most was the family eating at multiple tables pushed together, and my grandma carving the turkey every year with one of those electric knives. I enjoyed that so much that I bought an electric knife to use when hosting Thanksgiving a few years back.

So from my perspective, Id say spoil with quantity without getting Dudley Dursley crazy, but do what you can to provide experiences they'll remember. If you can swing for some super item then thats definitely cool.
