I don't mess with LN. I'm convinced it's been designed to steal your sats.

I wouldn't try to assign ill intent but I just think it just sounds better in theory than in practice. If I open a channel with someone and send sats back and forth for a week then yes I would save a lot of money on fees. But who the fuck sends that payments back and forth with the same merchant? People get groceries once maybe twice a week. I get a haircut once a month. I don't need lightning channels open with all these people and then waste my time trying to rebalance channels and pay routing fees lol

Agreed. I lost over .015 on LN. It would be worth much more today in dollar terms. Around .015 BTC at the time. Pissed me off enough to never want to use it again.

How exactly did you lose them?

I'm not sure, but after a power outage at my house, I tried to resync the node and it showed no funds. I used the seed words to do a recovery on the node and got an error. It was over a year ago. I still have the hardware and the login with seed words but haven't been able to recover any sats.

Seed words are backup for onchain funds, not lightning channels. For channels you need static channel backup to force close in this scenario. Or wait for other nodes to force close and not cheat on you. Then funds return to onchain wallet.

When running lightning node, UPS and disk mirroring is recommended.

Yeah sorry for the confusion, I was running a Bitcoin core node and a Lightning node. I'm not sure what happened to the funds on the lightning node, but I think I had too few channels and got force closed on. I got frustrated with it. I'm not super tech savvy.
