I’m here to immerse myself more into an alternative social media environment focused around Bitcoin and see content from people who share similar interests in that. It seems much more upbeat and optimistic here versus other platforms, and when I get off @primal I’m in a better mood usually than when I got on, which is opposite from what used to happen after doom scrolling the algos feed in Facebook, insta, or x.

awesome, thanks for response. Hope to keep that upbeat optimistic vibe.

I am here because of this:

1. Finding new people, who are basically smarter and have a different world View.

2. Bettet algorithm (or no algorithm) so there is more honesty, truth, less clickbait and stuff...

3. A Wallet, potentially even a super app with all The different features we now use 10+ apps for.

4. Topics I actually care about (Bitcoin, Freedom, etc.). Eventhough I wish there would be more in the future.

5. No one can controll it. Therefore it feels and is Free!

6. We need to start somewhere so these platforms can grow and improve in order to heal the World!

Cheers!

awesome, thanks for chiming in

I'm looking for connections and a network that is open-minded, don't bend to the government and let us be who we are.

I'm annoyed by all these age checks going on lately. MAN, I'm 45 years old! I don't need no age checks bullshit and send shady companies my bio metrics and ID. No!

If you wanna protect kids, talk to the parents and use proper parent-control-software. Educate parents and kids.... but leave us adults ALONE!

Sorry for the rant, but it makes me so angry.

Anyway.... I love talking about games & privacy. That is my vibe. 😄

Love the rant. Glad you’re here 🤙

❤️❤️❤️

Sorry maybe I m ruining this, but I have mixed feelings for now, about Nostr clients in general as social media tools and about Primal in particular.

As I ve said again on another occasion, I ve just made this account this last month. And I am present on all mainstream social media. My account has small number of followers in every social media, and this is what it's interesting for me the way things change day per day, in different platforms and also here when it comes to follows and engagement in general.

First of all, I don't understand this concept of "broken mainstream social media" that is always present in this kind of conversations.

Almost every social media has ways so th user can tailor the experience to user's needs: lists, word bans, exclusion of political content etc.

Every educated adult can stay away of harmfull social media experience if he/she wants.

Let's say I m interested in nature/wildlife content.

X is perfect for finding news, IG is perfect for finding HQ material, TikTok is excellent for diverse material etc.

So I don't really understand where is the problem (again, when it comes to the social media experience) with the mainstream social media.

Well ofcourse if you are interested in politics, you ll get what you are asking for.

2. The people.

Two "statements" I m always reading here:

a. "Do we need everyone in Nostr?"

b. "Here you can find smart/interesting people"

So, firstly: who is asking?

and secondly: smart people you can find everywhere, this is a lie, a blatant flatter.

3. The noise.

The "Oh it's so relaxed here, more cool" argument.

But ofcourse more people, bring more noise. That will happen also here, it's inevitable - imo.

4. The interests.

99% of the people here are only about crypto and the surrounding technology, Nostr etc.

This is hard.

As it seems the only way to connect with the people you want, is to make frequent searches with appropriate hashtags.

5. Algorithm.

I have the impression that accounts that are small and have different content preference than the 99% of users need an algorithm to grow. Or something else I don't really know nor I am an expert on social media architecture. But if someone follows me, for example, and his feed is full of Bitcoin, crypto, Nostr technical stuff, I feel that I have really to post like A LOT to grab his attention.

6. Engagement.

And then we reach the content and engagement issues.

So why to grab others' attention, because I want engagement on the topics I have interest. I mean why people are joining social media? For information purposes, for engagement, for profit.

The only way to have engagement with my type of content for example is to frequently hit the search bar so I find new users and new posts. Is that right? So I don't understand why when I m joining amethyst and even Primal (I don't remember) I have proposed follows but that thing ends there. On the rest of my time there, there is not a proposed follow, content related.

Again if someone is not affiliated with the technical stuff here the experience is really disheartening. I almost don't watch my feed at all. I followed back some acounts out of courtesy but tbh there is only one account on the whole Nostr ecosystem who's content I m really interested in. You really take the "note" that you don't have any place here.

Now because the engagement on those "Nostr indifferent" subjects is so small, there is no clue how to direct your content.

I mean (and again on my type of content - but that can apply to other topics),

on Threads is really clear from the beginning that they don't like violent wildlife encounters , only cool stuff and conservation themes

on TikTok, heat matters, hunts and kills are welcomed and generally diverse material.

etc

Here I m just posting everything trying to figure what is really attracting interest.

Again, I know what I like, but what's the meaning of social Media then? I can watch what I like on YouTube and finish.

7. Primal app.

There is this thing that I ve talked again in the post that pretty often you can't publish or you have the message that there is no connection, and ofcourse the connection is fine. So I've written my note on Primal and then I have to copy it and go to Amethyst.

If this was happening once every blue moon would be ok, buts it's happening often.

Also I really appreciate the minimal technical stuff involved in the app's interface but even me, after experimenting with other clients as well, I have the need to know more in the Network section. Again, for people like me, when I open Amethyst I feel that I need a course to fully understand the options and stuff. But I would like to understand what are my inbox and outbox relays for example. So I think that the "Network" tab needs more detail especially as the user becoming more accustomed with the terminology here.

8. Privacy and "all that stuff".

I mean yes this is where Nostr shines, but until mainstream social media go hard on KYC this seems to be a marketing method for Nostr clients.

There are people here who declare to be relieved from government and big corp control being here and the only thing talking about is Bitcoin.

I mean who censored you on X about talking about crypto? Let's get serious now.

Yes this anti censorship thing.

You know, if you all agree with each other (except on some technical stuff) or if you don't bother to express your disagreements why someone will bother to censor you?

Yes all that will become useful when the time comes, but for now it's really funny.

That's it for now.
