Pardoning Ross consequentially won Trump support from people who might not have backed him otherwise—including Ross himself, who just wore a red Trump tribute tie to Bitcoin 2025 in gratitude. The move resonated with Libertarian voters and fulfilled a high-profile campaign promise. For Trump, it was no skin off his back—this is what he does. He does things for people in exchange for loyalty. Trump still hasn’t pardoned Snowden, as Obama commuted Chelsea Manning’s sentence.

Donald Trump only pardoned Ross Ulbricht to gain more libertarian supporters. If he doesn't end the laws and policies that put people like Ross in jail in the first place, then the pardon was all just bread and circuses to distract the people from systemic issues.

Those who thought otherwise were idiots. Polititians being polititians...

He never will.

He will become a bargaining chip between Mr. Putin and whoever is President in the USA when the time comes for him to be put in the service of realpolitik.
