When you use anything other than Base Layer #Bitcoin, you're making a security trade off

trade off = risk

Risk Management is so important

only use amounts you're comfortable playing with on experimental projects

You make a tradeoff either way. On the base layer, in exchange for security you have to pay in transaction time or fees or sometimes both.
