-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-

Did you know that lighthouse keepers were local heroes during World War II?

As German planes frequently attacked the lighthouse, their job became perilous.

The remains of the old shelters, about 200 meters from the lighthouse, are a poignant reminder of the danger they faced. In time, the lighthouses became fully automated, rendering the lighthouse keeper’s role redundant, and the last residents left the islet around that time.

Now the islet of Mykines is “merely” home to one of the largest colonies of puffins in the Faroe Islands.
