Got a legit email from Apple iTunes Store for my iCloud+ account: “There is a problem with your payment information. Please update your payment information.”
Uh, my card on file doesn’t expire until 2027. Apple’s iCloud Dunning system must be broken for 2024?
Tried to update the card (even though it wasn't actually expired) via the App Store. That didn't work. Apple error message said: "Cannot Verify Payment Information." So now I had NO card on file for iCloud+ services. I tried 2 more times to add a payment method via App Store. No-go.
Ugh.
Headed to Apple Support (https://getsupport.apple.com/) and opened a Chat. Apple Tech Support rep, Adarsh, was super-helpful. Here's what he said: "To protect your account, Apple uses technologies that may be encountered during normal usage. I have made some changes from my end. Could you please try to add the payment method now and let me know how it goes?"
This time I was able to successfully add my payment details (which weren't expired in the first place, but Apple flagged them as expired).
Being Jan 1, 2024, it felt like it was Y2K - but for 2024.
