But it reminds me of (what I think is) the secret sauce of marketing - low bar Veblen goods. A price that makes a thing appear exclusive/statusy but still within reach of boomers. Boomers are what matter because they're so responsive to social stimuli. They all want to spend a lot to be in the club, and signal to each other that they're in.
