I’m thinking about setting up another personal server, currently I have one running #Umbrel and I have been wondering about using #StartOS for the second one, but after looking at their marketplace on their site, they seem to have a very substantial lack in the plug-in choices compared to Umbrel. Is this really the case or do they have a lot more than what are on their website? Also is there any advantage to using Start over Umbrel? #asknostr

Change from start9 registry to community registry

I'd like to hear what you're experience with Umbrel has been. I always start with Ubuntu Server, so these are new to me.

I like it, but it is my first. I used a raspberry and 2tb ssd… just updated to v1.1 os and it looks amazing, the market place is real easy to get new plugins and they have over a hundred to choose from

I am in the same place except I already installed start 9. The marketplace is very limited. Let’s hope the community marketplace has some useful apps. Have you installed start 9 yet?

No, I haven’t done anything with startOS, I originally was going to when I built my first but had read that startOS wasn’t recommended if you were running with a hard drive on a homemade system and had Umbrel recommended to me, so that’s what I’ve been running on my first one and I like that, but thought maybe if I build another machine, I’d try startOS but I haven’t really seen anything on their marketplace that was any better than Umbrel with their 100 or so plugins

I think you have made the right choice. Umbrel was my first and there is a lot of flexibility with them. I installed StartOS about a week ago. They are really different in setup and apps. Umbrel was easier to setup and easier to connect to outside wallets like Zeus or Zap. I still haven’t been able to get Start to connect to an outside wallet.

I checked out the “community marketplace” on Start that someone on your post recommended. There are 19 more apps, but nothing groundbreaking.

All of that just to say Umbrel for the win.
